This initiative is still in the course of development.
During this formative stage legal and editorial responsibility for
the initiative is accepted by Brian Michael Coyne trading as Vias
Tuas Communications (ABN 24 740 067 125). We are in the process
of establishing some form of corporate entity to assume management
and legal responsibility for this endeavour. (For further information
see the ABOUT US explanation.)
In due course we will develop, and publish, a comprehensive
privacy policy as required under government statute. In the meantime
we would like to state these general objectives of our intention
and the policies we seek to implement.
At the heart of this initiative is a primal desire
to "build a community". Of its nature the building of
community implies relationship between the members of that community
and the entity that is forming, developing, encouraging and nurturing
that community. Necessarily there has to be a sharing of private
information between the members of that community and the organising
entity.
We do encourage the use of pseudonyms in this
community to protect privacy. It is not primarily though a community
for people to come here anonmyously and vent their splean or get
their rocks off from behind a veil of privacy or anonymity. We are
"building a community" not seeking to cause division in
society, or in the Catholic Church, which is the larger sponsor
of our endeavour.
To protect the nature of this community it will
be necessary for the governing entity to collect limited personal
information. This will principally take the form of the first and
last names of members, a valid email address through which they
may be contacted, the limited geographic information of what country
in the world they are participating in this endeavour from, and
a nic-or user-name for identification purposes in the discussions.
The minimum "required" personal information that a person
needs to provide to participate in this endeavour is a valid email
address and a nic- or user-name.
The only intention of the Catholica Australia
endeavour in collecting this private information is for the objectives
of building and, where necessary, any policing of this initiative
to discourage individuals who either do not respect or who do not
understand what the objective of this initiative is. No information
collected from individuals for the aforesaid purposes will be disclosed
to third parties or passed on to other individuals, organisations
or governments except, in the case of civil governments, where we
might be required to do so by some legal constraint.
Catholica Australia of its nature encourages
individuals to provide far more information about themselves than
is required for our purposes in building or policing the initiative.
It provides a facility for members to publish personal profiles.
Such information is volunteered by members of this intiative of
their own free will and in furtherance of their desire to help build
this community and provide a place of personal relationship, community
and communio. Such information will be stored in our database on
behalf of members but it is exclusively for the use of fellow members
and will not be disclosed to third parties outside of this community
except as might be required by legal constraint caused by civil
government jurisdiction and fiat.
The developers of this
initiative give an undertaking to members that at all times they
will endeavour to respect their privacy and the levels of disclosure,
that do vary from individual to individual, as to what they disclose
about themselves in their efforts to integrate into this community.
We are not engaged in the business of seeking to exploit or hurt
any individual by the disclosure of personal information about them
to any person or organisation who, or which, has no business or
authority having access to their private information.
This endeavour is not a commercial endeavour.
It is not engaged in the activity of seeking any remuneration or
subscription from its ordinary members. It is not engaged in the
activity of trading in any disclosure of personal information or
even email lists to other businesses or organisations for commercial
or other gain.
